Jewelry Music

Can someone give me suggestions on spray painting a music jewelry box?
I have a plain wood music jewelry box that I would like to spray paint to match my French Provincial dresser. I did try painting with craft paint but it did not seem to cover well. My concern is that the spray paint will ruin the turn key for the music box. I also want the finished product to have a glossy sheen. Any help would be awesome thanks!
If you bought this box new it is most likely is a soft wood such as balsa. So according to the color you want -if it is a lite color buy a lite primer, just remember that your base color will affect you finish color so you want a primer near the finish Color as possible, also pickup your main color and a can of spray lacquer and some fine sandpaper (you want to sand lightly after each coat) in order to obtain a high gloss I would put two coats of each when you get to the lacquer you want to make sure your painting area is clean. When you start – mask the areas were you don’t want paint to fall before spraying shake the can well according to the directions on the can test spray on a piece of card board to develop your rhythm when you first press down don’t aim at the box get a smooth spray started before applying to the box allow your spray to be slow and steady. This should give you a very deep beautiful Finish. Good luck
IE. They have provincial antique kits you might look in to at craft stores and also you may want foreget the laquer on provincial or use low sheen coating.
