What should I give my girlfriend for an engagement?
It may seem like a strange question, but I’m wondering what I should give my girlfriend as a gift when I propose. A diamond ring is the usual custom, but she isn’t really big on jewelry. I asked her already what she would like when I propose, but she said that she would like anything and would treasure whatever it was, even if it was just a plain old rock.
I want to give her something a lot more meaningful than a rock when I pop the question. Something that will take her breath away and that she can keep with her forever. Any ideas out there?
I had to stop and think about what I treasure most in this world.
For material items the only thing I’ve kept over the years has been jewelry and books. I’m not a real big jewelry fan, but looking at all the crap I have it seems to be one of the few things I have any sort of emotional attachment to. Such as, I have a tiny set of silver heart earrings my brother gave me when I was 10 when he first got out of boot camp, I still have those and I wore them when I got married 12 years later.
What I treasure more than anything, is memories. I have 5 huge scrapbooks of my life adventures. If you want to give her something to treasure always, I suggest making a scrapbook of your courtship and when you ask for her hand in marriage present it to her. I would also suggest, that on the final page it be left blank with space for one picture….the picture of you two together right after she says yes with your book in hand and in the picture. (Polaroids work well for this purpose)
