What is a good alternative to a jewelry armoire?
I am moving into a smaller place and don’t have the floor space for a jewelry armoire. I’d rather not spend the money for a wall mounted one either and am just looking for a cheap alternative for storing jewelry. It doesn’t necessarily have to be purchased. Any idea is helpful!
Storage trays for drawer inserts are a good idea for some jewelry but you would have to forfeit drawer space for that.
At a craft store you can purchase containers that have compartments to keep your jewelry in order. You can find these containers in the beading aisle and perhaps the scrapbook aisle. These containers are great because they have lids and they are designed so that whatever is in each compartment will never end up getting mixed up with other spaces within the container.
There are other ways to store your jewelry. Necklaces can be hung on hooks which are attached to a wall. This keeps necklaces untangled. If you have a lot of bracelets, you could buy a counter top towel rack which are usually used next to vanity sinks. These come in two styles: ones style has a continuous ring, which would work for bracelets with clasps. The other style has a short bar on either side of the stand which can accommodate both clasped bracelets along with bangle bracelets.
Another cool idea to hang earrings is to get a piece of screening like the screens used in widows. Cut a piece to fit and staple in a large picture frame without the back, and hang it on the wall. This is where you can slip your hook style earrings into to keep them organized and within easy reach. You can screw cup hooks (these hooks look like question marks with a screw end) into the bottom of the frame to hang necklaces and bracelets from, as well. You can hang a lot of jewelry from a short curtain rod which has been attached to the wall. The cafe type curtain rods can be purchased for around $5.00 and work really well for this because they are quite small in diameter and have low projection brackets.
