Remember My Grandmother

My grandmother recently passed away, and she left behind some of her most prized possessions for her children and grandchildren. It is one of the best ways for me to remember her—through her favorite things. The other day, we all sat down together and talked about our grandmother. We all shared which possessions we had received and the story behind each treasured item. There were so many great stories, but here are some of my favorites about my grandma’s life.

  • Wedding Picture: My grandparents’ wedding picture is the kind that they show in movies—completely head over heels for each other. Just like many of the romances portrayed in movies, my grandparents had a whirlwind engagement and never fell out of love with each other.

  • Diamond Ring: This, of course, was her wedding ring where my grandpa sold almost everything he owned to buy it for her. It was just a simple diamond ring—very classic—but it meant the world to both of them.

  • Jewelry Box: Actually, this was one from her childhood that her father bought her. My grandma kept it in pretty good condition throughout her entire life.

  • China Dishes: This is one of my favorites. My grandma used to serve every meal we were there on her china dishes because she said that every time we were there was a special occasion. It made us feel really loved. I am not sure if they are discontinued Lenox china or some other brand, but whatever they a re, they are beautiful and hold a lot of fond memories.
